McAdams Cheers Anti-Discrimination Ruling from U.S. Supreme Court

Press Release

Congressman Ben McAdams says today's U.S. Supreme Court decision that firing an LGBTQ or transgender individual violates federal civil rights law is a long-sought non-discrimination victory. The court ruled on a trio of workplace cases in three different states.

"There's no place in our country for discriminating against an employee on the basis of sex and this court ruling upholds that legal principle. Utah was a leader in outlawing workplace and housing discrimination against LGBTQ individuals and now the high court has ruled those protections are the law of the land," said McAdams.

In 2015, Utah passed, and Governor Gary Herbert signed, bipartisan legislation to bar discrimination against LGBTQ individuals in housing and jobs.
